About
Hi, I'm Alan Good.
I accidentally discovered field hockey at 22, and it changed my life.
After a decade as a journalist in Ireland, I took a 50% pay cut to become a full-time coach – a decision that looked questionable in a country where most coaches are volunteers.
But that leap led me from running camps in sideways rain in Ireland to directing Focus Field Hockey's expansion across multiple cities in the USA, and ultimately to the NCAA Division I ranks with Liberty University, where we've competed for a national championship.
Why should you trust me?
My unorthodox path – late starter, journalist turned coach, club director turned college coach – gives me a unique lens on college recruiting.
I've sat on both sides of the desk: first helping athletes navigate the process as a club coach, now making the selections as a college coach.
I've seen how families struggle with the uncertainty and lack of transparency in recruiting, which is why I'm passionate about pulling back the curtain on this complex process.
Through my course and content, I provide the straight talk that families need, combining hard truths about the competitive realities (only 2.5% of high school players make it to Division I) with practical strategies for standing out.
My mission is helping athletes find their right fit, not just chase dream schools.
I believe starting both playing and coaching as an adult gives me special empathy for learners. This perspective, combined with my experience in player development and NCAA recruiting, allows me to bridge the gap between where athletes are and where they want to go.
Some days I'm a good coach, but I'm always working to be a great one. I share what I learn along the way, bringing transparency to a process that too often leaves families feeling lost and overwhelmed.
